Bicycle and E-Scooter • 2023-08-10

I've reached $100 out of $630 . Remember, only shopping or errand trips are considered. Here's a rough conclusion:

  • The goal was set 100 days ago.
  • In that time, I've recouped $100.
  • On average, I'm "getting back" $1 per day.

So at this rate, the bicycle would be paid off in approximately 630 days. If, for instance, I used the bicycle for commuting to work, it would clearly pay for itself much faster. Or if the store was far from home and I had to ride to it every time, that would also speed up repayment. Conversely, at a leisurely pace, the bicycle pays for itself slowly.

However, calculating the benefits is not straightforward. The only "direct" benefit is when I use the bicycle instead of the tram. But what about cases where I need to go to a distant store that the tram doesn't serve? If I didn't have the bicycle - I would save even more: not taking unnecessary trips and not buying impulse items at the store 😤 it's hard.
