Hello everyone. It’s time for my weekly update.
🗓️ Today I noticed that my goal was created over 3,000 days ago. It turns out my goal is already very old. I wonder how much longer it’s going to last?
💾 This week, I spent 11 hours building a file backup program. The program is finished and works surprisingly well: https://github.com/hinst/hi-backup. It features encryption, compression, and updates for changed files. The main advantage of the app is that it does exactly what I want. However, the main drawback is that if I’ve made a serious bug somewhere, the data won’t be recoverable 🥵 In popular archival software, this risk is very low because they are used by thousands of people, so most bugs have already been found and fixed. For my program, I wrote several unit tests just to give myself a bit more confidence that it works correctly.
The most productive day of the week was Saturday, when I spent 6 hours writing and debugging my hi-backup program.
🖥️ Also, I recently bought a 4K monitor from AOC for $360 for my home computer 😴. It has wide “feet” and a 160 Hz refresh rate. The image clarity is great. My previous monitor was also an AOC, but the specs were: 1080p, 240 Hz. I think that 4K is definitely a huge plus for people who spend a lot of time on their computers. The difference is noticeable when reading text, and the visuals in games look great too.
